Each month we like to feature an interesting photograph submitted by one of our members, not necessarily taken by a member.  The main interest can be personal, pictorial, horticultural or environmental, and informative captions will be appreciated.

Photo of the Month

Next month’s picture could be one you send in. We can scan your prints if you haven’t got a digital picture - post them to  Webmaster, 2 Cadogen Park, BT47 5QW, enclosing at least your name and address -  so that you can get your print back.

Otherwise, please choose an interesting digital picture and attach it to an e-mail that shows your name and a caption for the picture, then send it addressed to

From Dale’s Corner take the Limavady Road; take the first road on the left (St Columbs Road); then enter the grand lane on the right, and follow its  humps and curves until you reach the house.

We set out with this request: Please refresh this web-site with words and pictures that will make it more interesting and useful than ever. The members who have already done so, nearly all with pictures and most with relevant words too, are now Dorothy Foster, Ros Hamilton  and John Keys in addition to Kay Atherton, Emma Box, Margot Caldwell, Liam Greene, Alan Hamilton, Daphne McCartney, Inge Mueller, and Lena Wray.  Our thanks to you all.

Until we can meet freely again we’d like everyone, members or not, to send us fresh ideas, pictures, or wisdom as well as your ideas or comments aroused by the existing Pool pages.

Please have a look at the Events page for hints.

Of course, we hope you’ll also keep up with the latest Pools changes by using the Pool Index at this link:

Famous cut-flower and tomato grower Thomas Butterly and his clerk are shown judging the All-Ireland Sweet Pea Championship in 2019. The winner was  David Moloney  from Co. Carlow, This mauve pea looks like “Bridget McAleer”

bred at Balbriggan by her husband, Chris.

September is the best month to plan and order your Sweet Pea seed for a good display starting in June, but lots of gardeners are happy to sow in early Spring. The widest variety is in Roger Parsons’ catalogue (including 20 Irish varieties) - ring  Syd at 44 (0)7594815155 for a copy.
