At present this page is being used as a directory to other organisations our members might wish to visit or consult.  If you have suggestions to be added, or any more up-to-date details to replace those given below, please don’t hesitate to email them to the webmaster at mailbox@derryhortsoc.org

Royal Horticultural Society: Our Society is affiliated to the RHS and some of our members belong to the RHS.  It provides a members’ advisory service and a monthly magazine called The Garden.

Visit https://www.rhs.org.uk

Royal Horticultural Society of Ireland: A smaller body with about eighty affiliates (some give admission discounts) but eager to promote co-operation for lectures and flower shows, it produces a Journal and has a lending library with a book-list on the web-site.  Membership costs match the RHS but of course travel to Irish events and affiliated gardens (two in N I)  is far cheaper. Visit https://rhsi.ie

Belfast City Council provides Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park which includes an international rose trial ground, and the Belfast Botanic Garden which has a famous curvilinear glasshouse and a tropical ravine. Dates of Rose Week and the big Botanic Flower Show are published at http://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/leisure/parks-openspaces/parks-open-spaces.aspx

The Alpine Garden Society can be contacted via its web-site, http://alpinegarden-ulster.org.uk

The Hardy Plant Society caters for gardening with herbaceous perennials, but has no group established in Ireland.  Contact http://www.hardy-plant.org.uk

The Irish Garden magazine is a 10-monthly-issues periodical publication, well illustrated and with topical reminders and a wide range of easy-to-read articles. Its staff are responsible for an online magazine, garden.ie, that is updated weekly and offers a less technical advisory service than the RHS.  Garden.ie has an easy-to-use plant selector unit and it runs a members club section where you can describe your garden and be as sociable as ever you like. https://www.garden.ie/
