02/07/2020 / Dorothy Foster / Early Summer Delights

This Paeony is ‘Bowl of Beauty’, which is very easy to grow and keeps its shape well.   It was bought on a Gardening Club trip to the West of Ireland, years ago.

The floppy lilac plant is Valerian - I got a piece of it which was growing out of a wall in Portnoo.  The Libertia is one of my favourite plants (kindly given to me by Daphne) as it lights up a dark corner and doesn't seem to mind not getting much sun. This year the bloom has been exceptional.

A little bit of Japan in Derry

I loved the way these  plants looked so comfortable on what might be a rather dry bank, as though they were quite glad to be well above the nearest river, so then I had  to ask Dorothy for an introduction: -

Again I had to ask:

I was delighted to see this  baby seedling from a tender Japanese Azalea had grown up successfully:-

This is a live Azalea plant trained like bonsai.

This is Wisteria trained on an arched bridge.

“A little bit of Persia  in Derry.” (Parrotia persica, spectacular in Autumn).

Gerberas at my front door, ‘Ice Plant’ out the back. Two little bits of South Africa in Derry.
